KEYNOTE SPEAKER 1

Keynote Title: “Double-Degree Program for Nurturing Engineers With Global Perspective”

 

Keio University, Prof. Shinnosuke Obi

 

Professor Obi is the Dean of the International Center, Keio University, Japan. Prior to his current appointment he has served as the Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs at the Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology for more than a decade where he has been deeply involved in developing various international programs such as the double-degree programs offered to the students of Keio University and its partner institutions in the world. Currently, he is also appointed to the Director of the Center for Japanese Studies at Keio University.

 

He has served as a member of various committees at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, or MEXT, related to scholarship programs for international students, joint- and double-degree programs at Japanese higher education, and human resource development.

 

He has a BSc and MSc (mechanical engineering) from Keio University, and a Dr.-Ing. from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. Concurrent with his position in the International Center, he is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology. He is Fellow of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer Society of Japan, Gas Turbine Society of Japan, and the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.

 

Professor Obi’s research focuses on fluid mechanics, turbulence modeling, computational mechanics, heat transfer, and flow measurement technique. He has published numerous articles and reviews in academic journals, edited books and refereed proceedings in Japanese and English, and has delivered over 200 presentations at Japanese conferences and meetings.

Keynote Title: “Technologist vs Engineers: the Malaysian Context”

 

 

Universiti Teknologi MARA, Prof. Ir. Dr. Norlida Buniyamin

 

Professor Ir. Dr. Norlida Buniyamin is a Professor of Electrical Engineering, University Teknologi MARA, Malaysia and is a Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. She graduated from the University of Adelaide, Australia with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Hons.). She was a Research Fellow with the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS) before joining University Teknologi MARA as a lecturer in 1988. She then obtained an M.Sc. in Industrial Control System from the University of Salford, U. Kingdom in 1993 and a Ph.D. in the area of Knowledge Management for Manufacturing Enterprises in 2004 from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), U.Kingdom.

 

Professor Norlida Buniyamin is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and Hon Fellow of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO). She has been an active member of IEM since 1992 and is currently the Vice President of IEM (2016-2020). Professor Norlida was elected as a Board member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) since 2017 and have served in and lead various committees in BEM. She was the Malaysian Country Registrar (2016-2018) and also the Head Commissioner of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO) (2018-2019).

 

Her current research interest is in Industrial Automation and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Knowledge Management and Engineering Education.
